€25,340.00 for the Red Cross Amsterdam

Gevel

Amsterdam, 11 November 2011 – This weekend the fifth Stars, Food & Art culinary event took place at the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam hotel. Culinary journalist and author Lise Goeman Borgesius brought together no fewer than twelve nationally and internationally renowned chefs, with 26 Michelin stars between them, to prepare their ‘signature dish’ in the kitchen of professional chef Aurélien Poirot. The theme for the anniversary was ‘Best Of’
and it was attended by a selection of the most popular chefs from recent years. It was a special experience for all the professional chefs which resulted in high-quality culinary creations. And sommelier Hans Tuin chose the most suitable wines to complement the dishes. A substantial part of the cover price was donated to the Samen in Amsterdam (‘Together in Amsterdam’) project of the Netherlands Red Cross Amsterdam.

For example, in order to forge a link between the fine arts of gastronomy and music, guests on Friday evening were treated to a spectacular performance by Ellen ten Damme and on Saturday to a performance by Trijntje Oosterhuis.

Donation to the Red Cross Amsterdam

A substantial part of the proceeds from the Best of Stars, Food & Art will be donated to the Samen in Amsterdam (‘Together in Amsterdam’) project of the Red Cross Amsterdam. On Friday 4 November, vice-chairman of the Red Cross Mohammed Baba received a cheque for €13,820. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan attended as honorary chairman of the Red Cross Amsterdam on Saturday 5 November, so that he could be presented with a cheque for a total amount (from both evenings) of €25,340. The Amsterdam Red Cross is delighted to be working with the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam. They can use the ensuing support effectively to further expand the Samen in Amsterdam project, which tackles social isolation.
